Your Sacred Pelvis

Holistic Pelvic Care

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a holistic approach to pelvic care that arises from deep listening to your body. It uses gentle inter-vaginal massage techniques combined with breathing techniques to support balancing the physical and energetic aspects of your pelvis. Together we engage self inquiry practices to support women to understand the patterns of tension we hold in our pelvic bowls, as well as offer tools for women to learn how to rewire these patterns to create more balance in the pelvis.

In all stages of a woman’s life, this work restores the pelvic bowl as the creative center of our bodies.

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a modality pioneered by Tami Lynn Kent, MSPT. Tami began her physical therapy practice in a hospital setting, and as she witnessed the profound physical benefits, she concurrently realized she was able to read energetic patterns of the pelvis. She combined her medical knowledge with her intuitive understanding to create the modality Holistic Pelvic Care™. Tami has written a number of pivotal books as well, the most notable of which is called The Wild Feminine.

Women's Health

Holistic Pelvic Care™ supports women’s health in a myriad of ways. It rebalances the pelvis following a miscarriage or abortion. It supports healing from chronic bladder issues such as infections or Interstitial Cystitis. It supports healing from chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia and pain with sex. HPC is also helpful for postmenopausal women who struggle with vaginal dryness or to connect with their sexuality. HPC also surprisingly helps with certain musculoskeletal issues, especially knee pain. HPC can be supportive, in conjunction with therapy or counseling in healing from abuse or sexual trauma.

Perinatal Health

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is not indicated during pregnancy. In some countries, pelvic floor physical therapy is a standard of care for postpartum women. This should be the case everywhere. Birth is a beautiful process that greatly impacts the health of the pelvic floor and under the best of birthing circumstances, the pelvic floor needs rehabilitative work postpartum, even if it happens years after the birth. Among the postpartum issues HPC supports are stress incontinence, pain with sex, lack of orgasm, pelvic pain, back pain, organ prolapse, knee pain and pelvic floor weakness.

Holistic Pelvic Care™ FAQ

What happens in a Holistic Pelvic Care™ session?

The bodywork practice itself consists of internal vaginal massage. The practitioner wears a glove and inserts one finger into the vagina. We assess the tone of the muscles, and, engaging the breath, offer healing massage techniques that release tension in the muscle and fascia.

Can men receive Holistic Pelvic Care™?

In our current paradigm, there are many ways to identify along the spectrum of gender. Holistic Pelvic Care™ is available to people who have an anatomical vagina.

What effects might I notice following a session?

Though the work is gentle, the results are often profound. The touch the pelvis receives tends to be either sexual or medical, in nature. Receiving healing touch in this area brings a different level of internal awareness in the pelvic bowl. Many experience this as a sense of well-being, as the massage increases the flow of blood and energy, revitalizing the pelvic center.

Is pelvic massage painful?

Pelvic massage is meant to be gentle and nourishing. As with most massage, we are working on muscle and fascia and sometimes touch upon tender spots. If there is tenderness, we invite the breath to direct itself to the area of tension and work with the response of your body to guide the depth and direction of touch.

When should I come in after childbirth?

Six weeks postpartum is a good time to begin postpartum HPC. The bodywork can support natural postpartum healing as well as offer support to healing from any birth trauma that might have occurred. In the case of healing from birth trauma, if internal bodywork feels too invasive, external energetic work and visualization exercises can be offered. External or energetic work can begin anytime after birth to sooth your spirit and ease your transition into motherhood.

Will HPC be helpful to me if I have had a Cesarean birth?

If you have had a Cesarean birth, HPC can still support your healing. It can address the imbalances in your pelvic bowl that result from pregnancy, extended labor or the emotional experience that arises from having had a Cesarean, especially where a vaginal birth was the desired outcome.

How does HPC help after a miscarriage or abortion?

HPC helps on the physical and energetic levels. It offers healing to the muscle and fascia of your pelvic bowl and it also supports your reconnection to self after a deep loss. Whether the loss be chosen or not, HPC offers comfort and healing in your time of grief and letting go.

Tilted Uterus

By Chaya Aronson

Many women are told, casually, by their gynecologists that they have a “tilted uterus”, and that this is “normal”. It is, in fact, so common, that many anatomy and physiology textbook illustrations picture the uterus in a forward tilt. The forward tilt, anteverted, is the most common uterine malposition, though there are others, including retroverted,…

After a series of sessions with Chaya, my menstrual cycles shifted profoundly. My symptoms included debilitating cramps that often induced vomiting, with an understandably melancholy affect. After five sessions that including Maya Abdominal Massage, Holistic Pelvic Care and Vaginal Steaming, I actually began to have peaceful menstrual cycles. I now have more awareness of my internal organs, and that feels empowering. " Chaya has an admirable way of creating space for healing. I have never had such an encouraging outcome from a chronic health issue. Thank you Chaya!

I found Chaya after a LONG journey of finding myself. Western medicine had failed me and my uro/gynecologist recommended that I move into eastern medicine/shamanism to heal my vulvodynia. Up to this point, I had only ever had painful sex. With Chaya’s gentle presence, support and guidance, I reframed my sexual belief system and healed my body. Chaya offered me solace from my restricted stance on human sexuality. Working with her has been nothing short of amazing. My body literally restructured itself into a much more comfortable stance and I enjoy sexual vitality and vigor as I never have before. I feel blessed to have found her.
